Our fantastic múinteoir at Teach an Mhaistire is native Irish speaker Sorcha Ni Ghallachóir, who was  born and raised  in  Gaoth Dobhair, Co. Donegal. Sarah  has been a keen scholar of the Irish language from a young age  and her passion and dedication have earned her numerous credits.
 

Her talent in her native language was noticed early on when she was  asked at the age of   twelve  to take part in an  all Irish  programme  Now You’re Talking,  which was televised by BBC Northern Ireland to promote the learning of the Irish language.
 

Sarah continued to excel right through to university and beyond. She was awarded an  Honours  Bachelor Degree in Early and Modern Irish  and a  Postgraduate Diploma of  Education in Irish and English  from The University of Dublin,  Trinity College; while also receiving  a distinction in spoken language for each  academic year.  In her Senior  Sophister  year, she  wrote a dissertation on the life and work of the famous musician  Proinsias  Ó  Maonaigh, for which she received  a first class honours.
 

Sarah’s teaching career began  as an  Irish Language Teaching Assistant  at the  School of Linguistics, Speech and Communication Sciences  at  the  The Centre for Language and Communication Studies, Trinity College Dublin, which then led to second level teaching. Schools taught in include  Coláiste  Íosogain, Belvedere College S.J.  and  Muckross  College Park.
 

She has also taught  in  Coláiste  Gael Linn and Bun an Inbhir  in the  Gaeltacht  for the past two summers.
 
Sarah has even taught classes in Scottish Gaelic at the International Pan Celtic Festival 2009 and was a judicator at the  An  Béal  Binn  Irish  Poetry Competition in 2009 and 2010.
 

At present, Sarah is undertaking study to gain entrance  to The Honorable Society of  King’s Inns in  order to  pursue a higher diploma in Legal Translations.
